If anything, Linkedin and listings on a company's own website have made the need for targeted recruitment firms more apparent.
As the industry comes to the realization that people are not widgets, the intricacies of recruiting, screening, and presenting appropriate candidates becomes clear. A resume is not a person.
The majority of my clients are people I know well. I know their strengths and their shortcomings. When I send candidates those traits are taken into consideration along with possible shared visions, passions, and approaches to business processes.

Rita,

Very well put - couldn't agree more. The agencies that really grasp the 'intricacies' (rather than subscribe to a mechanical 'match the keywords to the job-spec' approach) will be more valuable than ever in a market where every candidate on the planet has his/her own online profile.
